Samantha Wungundin Allies

Samantha was born in 1995 and was awarded the $5,000 Emerging Artist Award in the 2014 Kimberley Art Prize. She was one of the 3 artists from Derby to be represented in the "Revealed" exhibition in Perth in 2015.

Samantha and Tanisha, her younger sister, would often go on long walks with the Elders when they lived in Imintji, their mother's country, travelling through the bush and looking after the old people as they made their pilgrimages to the ancient Wandjina over-hangs. They loved to listen to the old people's stories. Samantha and Tanisha have been immersed in Ngarinyin and Wandjina culture all their lives. They are both proficient bush women and love hunting and fishing.

Samantha is a softly spoken intelligent girl who always attended school and worked closely with her teacher Mary Norval during her high school days in Derby. She displayed a prodigious talent in Art and Sports.
